Lake Fishing

In addition to the world-class fishing we offer on the North Platte and Encampment Rivers, the lake fishing in the Platte Valley is second to none. Lake George is our on-grounds option that hosts Brown and Rainbow trout up to 5 pounds. Lake George is an incredibly healthy environment for trout as eight pumps constantly run to help provide oxygen for the fish and the aquatic insects. Lake George is a great option for the beginner angler with multiple opportunities to catch fish while it can be a blast for the experienced angler looking to improve their Streamer strategies.

East Lake is our other most popular lake option that we offer at Old Baldy. Since the 1990’s East Lake has been the go-to spot to find a trophy sized fish. East Lake is located about ten minutes southeast of the Old Baldy Club and is large enough to host up to 3 guide boats comfortably. Big rainbows and the occasional monster brown lurk in the depths at East Lake but are often fooled with baitfish, leech, and crawfish patterns. Smaller insects like Chironomids, Damselfies, and Callibaetis also are key to the diet of these large fish.

If you’re looking for a hard tug on the end of your line then look no further than East Lake and Lake George. We generally offer more lake trips in the early season while the North Platte and the Encampment rivers swell during peak runoff, but these lakes fish well all season and are great options for the beginner and experienced angler.
